HOPE Ukraine assistance fund

Ever since Russia launched a large-scale invasion, our hearts have been with those in Ukraine, where HOPE was founded 28 years ago.

Since then, we've invested in the dreams of thousands of Ukrainian entrepreneurs and farmers. We've seen families work their way out of poverty and lives changed by the Gospel. And we are heartbroken at the suffering and devastation they are facing.

Helping Ukranians sustain their businesses amid war

HOPE International specializes in long-term development—not crisis response. While we provided immediate relief through local church partners, our primary focus is on equipping entrepreneurs, farmers, and staff to serve their communities now and after the war is over. The HOPE Ukraine assistance funds will be used to:

Deposit loan icon

Provide grants to a network of local churches and organizations in Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, and Poland through connections we've built over 28 years of ministry in Ukraine. We've also sent funds to around 50 churches or organizations since the war began—most of them small Ukrainian churches.

Grace period icon

Support Ukrainian business owners and farmers with grace periods and flexibility on their current loan repayments. As we check in with these men and women, we're also praying for them, providing business coaching, and in some cases, directly assisting in emergencies.

Handshake icon

Help more business owners, farmers, and families recover from damage to property, lost income, or other capital needs once the violence ends. Through business loans, housing loans, and agricultural loans, we plan on playing a central role in helping Ukrainians rebuild their war-torn country.

Savings group icon

Expand savings groups among churches serving the Roma population. In Europe, the Roma are typically looked down upon and discriminated against, and most of them live in poverty. In Ukraine, savings groups allow Roma churches to help their communities flourish as members meet regularly to save, pray, worship, and meet their community's needs together.

Staff icon

Provide ongoing support to around 50 HOPE Ukraine staff members for their personal safety and wellbeing. Most of them had to flee their homes with their families to escape violence.

We praise God that generous supporters have helped raise sufficient funds for relief response, though we are still distributing them. Additional funding will go toward equipping entrepreneurs during wartime and long-term rebuilding in Ukraine.

Other ways we're responding:

We have resumed most of our regular operations in Ukraine. We're hard at work supporting the families we serve, equipping them to serve and uplift their communities even amid war.

Food icon

Collectively, HOPE and our partners have provided food, shelter, transportation, and assistance to more than 200,000 Ukrainians. Many of these people are refugees or internally displaced people (IDP) whose neighborhoods were directly impacted by invasion or bombing.

Church icon

In partnership with the Chalmers Center, we trained church pastors and leaders to start savings groups and development projects in their own communities. So far, 12 groups have started projects serving IDPs, women and children, and families of soldiers.

Contract icon

We've equipped Invest Credit (our microfinance partner in Moldova) to support Ukrainians. Invest Credit now has a loan product specifically designed for businesses that are Ukrainian-owned, hiring Ukrainian refugees, or trading with Ukraine.

Target icon

We've simplified 18 loan products into four loan products: business, housing, agriculture, and consumer loans. We've also expanded our small-and-medium-enterprise (SME) loan program, allowing clients to access larger loans.
