HOPE International’s financial inclusion efforts in the Dominican Republic will be featured on an upcoming episode of Viewpoint,” the Telly award-winning television series hosted by actor Dennis Quaid.
“Oftentimes, poverty is something Americans only hear about in the context of fatalistic, disheartening reporting. We’re honored that Viewpoint recognized the uniqueness of HOPE’s positive and empowering approach,” shared HOPE International president and CEO, Peter Greer. “We hope many U.S. viewers will be encouraged to see the global Church on the front lines of fighting poverty around the world.”
The program is part of a series Viewpoint is airing to explore the global and community impact of faith-based non-profits. Starting in October 2023, the episode will air nationally in all 50 states to a viewership of approximately 60 million homes.
Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid’s production team aims to enlighten public TV audiences through documentary-style programming on topics like business, technology, and culture. The collaboration between Viewpoint and HOPE International delves into broader economic issues like the gap in access to capital and a safe place to save for millions of families around the world.
A Viewpoint crew traveled to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic earlier this year to film staff and entrepreneurs served by Esperanza International, HOPE’s local microfinance institution. The segment features HOPE International president and CEO, Peter Greer, as well as Francia, who has used business loans and training from Esperanza to grow her business selling food items and drinking water to her community.
“My business was slow and I wasn’t doing well, but Esperanza opened their doors and gave me a loan, says Francia, in the feature. “From there, I have advanced, and my business is doing great, thanks to God and Esperanza.”
