On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a large-scale invasion in Ukraine, with fighting, bombings, and attacks throughout the country.
HOPE International was founded in Ukraine 25 years ago. Since then, we've invested in the dreams of thousands of Ukrainian entrepreneurs and farmers. We've seen families work their way out of poverty and lives changed by the Gospel. And we are heartbroken at the suffering and devastation they are now facing.

HOPE International specializes in long-term development—not crisis response. While we provided immediate relief through local church partners, our primary focus is on supporting entrepreneurs, farmers, and preparing staff to help Ukrainians rebuild once this war is over. The HOPE Ukraine assistance funds will be used to:
Support Ukrainian business owners and farmers with grace periods and flexibility on their current loan repayments. As we check in with these men and women, we're also praying for them, providing business coaching, and in some cases, directly assisting in emergencies.
Help more business owners, farmers, and families recover from damage to property, lost income, or other capital needs once the violence ends. Through business loans, housing loans, and agricultural loans, we plan on playing a central role in helping Ukrainians rebuild their war-torn country.
Expand savings groups among churches serving the Roma population. In Europe, the Roma are typically looked down upon and discriminated against, and most of them live in poverty. In Ukraine, savings groups allow Roma churches to help their communities flourish as members meet regularly to save, pray, worship, and meet their community's needs together.
Provide ongoing support to 47 HOPE Ukraine staff members for their personal safety and wellbeing. Most of them had to flee their homes with their families to escape violence.

For now, we have temporarily paused most of our regular operations in Ukraine, but we're still hard at work supporting the families we serve and our staff as they await the end of this terrible war.
We provided grants to a network of local churches and organizations in Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, and Poland through connections we've built over 25 years of ministry in Ukraine.
We've sent funds to 28 churches or organizations since the war began—most of them small Ukrainian churches.
Collectively, these partners have provided food, water, shelter, transportation, emotional support, or other assistance to more than 100,000 refugees or internally displaced people. A significant portion of these refugees are coming from areas directly impacted by invasion or bombing.

We praise God that generous supporters have helped raise sufficient funds for relief response, though we are still distributing them. Additional funding will go toward long-term rebuilding in Ukraine.
We are thankful to have raised sufficient funds for our immediate relief efforts. Ongoing donations to the HOPE Ukraine assistance fund will be allocated to HOPE's post-war rebuilding work.
If you would like to help the Ukrainian people with direct emergency help, here are several Christ-centered organizations responding on the ground.
