Countries You Can Help
Ukraine
Ukraine gained its independence with the dissolution of the USSR in 1991. The country is struggling to pay high gas prices to Russia and is challenged by tensions between the prime minister and president. Ukraine hopes to join the EU by 2015.
HOPE in Ukraine
Ukraine is the first country in which HOPE began working. Typically, loan offices in Ukraine function without further influxes of capital after only 18 months of operation. As HOPE Ukraine receives donor funds, it has been able to leverage these donations to access nearly $1.5 million in loans that will enable continued growth and expansion. The profits of the program go to support Tomorrow Clubs, which now exist nationwide and impact 11,000 children each week. HOPE Ukraine clients are generally highly educated but lack the opportunity to find employment that pays a living wage. With loans from HOPE, they are able to start and grow small businesses such as transportation services, clothing shops, and remodeling services, often hiring one or two employees to assist them.
